Did
you know some people experience migraine headaches from exercise?
Depending on one’s age, these headaches may be induced in older
people with angina (chest pain from clogged or blocked aortic
arteries). Other migraine sufferers experience headaches from
tension. But for the younger set, these mind grinding aches
are causes by physical exertion.
For
28-year old, Kelly Borowski, her migraines were triggered by
another demon. She had been exercising for more than 10 years.
She took kickboxing classes for three months, five days a week
when she began to experience migraines at the end of her work
out regimen. Although, Kelly was a good weight and in optimal
physical health, the headaches began to take a toll on her fitness
regimen.
For
vast majority of the population suffer from tension headaches
that involves, a painful tightness enveloping the head. For
athletes, exertional headaches are the most prevalent headaches.
These extertional headaches are attributed to an increase in
blood pressure in both the brain and arteries of the head. For
example, when bodybuilders inhale or hold their breath during
the hoist of a heavy load, a migraine or exertional headache
is the end-result. The headache is preventable by exhaling during
the weight lift and inhaling when the weight is lowered.
During
cardiovascular activity, such as jogging, playing tennis, roller
blading, basketball, aerobic exercise, biking or any other rigorous
physical activity, exertional headaches may be triggered. To
prevent the extra exertion or headaches the prescription Indocin
can be taken to before exercising.
Bodybuilding
fitness breathing tip: To avoid a migraine or an exertional
headache NEVER hold your breath while straining to lift a weight
or perform an exercise. If the headaches ensue on a regular
basis consult your physician.
